Cartersville man drowns in Gulf of Mexico

A 21-year-old Cartersville man drowned in the Gulf of Mexico Sunday.
According to the Panama City News Herald, the body of Tony Orlando Jackson was found about a half-mile east of M.B. Miller Pier Sunday afternoon.
Panama City Beach Police had originally responded to a call about a distressed swimmer at around 2:30 p.m. at the pier, but Jackson was not found until several hours later.
Witnesses reported seeing Jackson swimming in the Gulf when he was overtaken by a large wave and wasn’t seen resurfacing.
His body was turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation.
