The second meeting of the Homelessness Task Force started with a look back at a 2009 plan to address the issue and then looked ahead to what comes next.
Rome Community Development Director Bekki Fox began the meeting by going over key components of that plan called “Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness One Person at a Time.”
Even though most of it was never implemented, efforts to address homelessness didn’t stop just because the plan never moved forward.
Devon Smyth with the Davies Shelter said members of the newly formed HOPE Alliance have started collecting data regarding the most urgent needs.
The work has begun in earnest with the formation of subcommittees that will look at each area of need.
The subcommittees will come up with goal and priorities for a plan to submit to the Rome City Commission
The Homelessness Task Force’s next meeting will be on October 24.
