Housing authority’s project at Charlton Street and Martha Berry moving forward

November 5, 2019–7:39 a.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Northwest Georgia Housing Authority’s plan for a new development at Charlton Street and Martha Berry Boulevard is moving forward.

On Monday, the Rome City Commission placed a rezoning request for the property onto First Reading.

Second Reading and final approval are expected during the commission’s next meeting.

As you may remember, a hotel had been proposed for the property.

However, after residents of the Summerville Park neighborhood expressed objections to the plan, the housing authority stepped up and purchased the property.

The housing authority plans to construct a senior housing project consisting of five duplexes.
