City commission approves water and sewer rates increase

November 26, 2019–7:51 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

City of Rome water and sewer customers will see a rate hike.

On Monday, the Rome City Commission approved water and sewer rates for the coming year.

According to Assistant Water and Sewer Director John Boyd, the two and a half percent rate increase for 2020 comes with a 60% cut in capital spending.

“So we’re tightening our belt along with asking for rate increases,” he added.  “As a community and as a staff, we’d rather see small incremental increases as opposed to large, step increases.  We do have challenging times ahead.”

The new rates go into effect on January 1.
