STAFF REPORTS

Bill Collins is finishing up his first term as Rome’s mayor and he joined Tony McIntosh on WRGA’s First News on Wednesday to talk a little bit about the city’s accomplishments since January.

Collins said it’s been an eventful year on the economic development front.

“We had an expansion by the Ball Corporation, creating over 100 jobs,” he said.  Then we had an expansion at Southeastern Mills and the warehouse down there that we had the opportunity to tour.  It’s been really good and we have some great things in the pipeline.  We are expecting big things and continued opportunity for employment.”

Looking ahead to the coming year, Collins has been getting to know the three new Rome City Commissioners who will take office in January.

“I’ve spent a great deal of time with them doing the process of going to different sites in the community and doing the forums where we got a chance to look at each other in the eyes and talk,” he said.  “I’ve had a chance to listen to a lot of their ideas.  My conversations with them since they were elected have been really positive.”

Those new commissioners are Bonny Askew, Jim Bojo and Mark Cochran.
