February 5th, 2020 – 3:45 PM

Floyd County Emergency Management & The National Weather Service –

Here is the latest weather update from the National Weather Service in Peach-tree City regarding our current weather situation:

There is a strong storm system will impact much of Georgia tonight and Thursday • Primary Hazards Tonight/Thursday: – Damaging winds > 60 MPH (primary hazard) – Heavy rain/FloodingTornadoes (brief/spin-up) • Cold air & lingering moisture behind the front will increase the chances for a wintry mix across north Georgia early Friday morning

Currently our area is under a  Marginal (Level 1) to Slight (Level 2) Risk across west Georgia mainly for late this evening into the overnight hours. • The potential for strong to severe thunderstorms will increase overnight as the warm front moves north & east across Alabama and approaches the state line.

The effects from this particular storm could possibly produce 2”-4” of rain affecting driving conditions for commuters and morning traffic caused by standing water on roadway, localized flash flooding in low lying areas, and power outages around the county.

The community is urged to use caution during this period of heavy rain and high winds from this storm.
