Cartersville murder suspect in custody

CARTERSVILLE POLICE NEWS RELEASE

The suspect in a deadly shooting Tuesday night in Cartersville is in custody.

35-year old Tavares Atwell was taken into custody without incident in Doraville on Wednesday.

He is charged with murder with malice under the State’s Family Violence Act, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Cartersville Police responded to the Parkway North extended stay hotel at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a ‘shots fired’ call.

29-year old Julia T. Malachi of Cartersville was found dead in one of the rooms.

From WBHF Radio:  Atwell appears to have a long arrest record in Fulton County dating back to 2012. Charges range from drug possession to armed robbery. He was arrested in Bartow in 2018 and charged with theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
