Closings and delays for Friday

Due to the frigid temperatures and the threat of black ice, we have some school closings and delays to tell you about.

Floyd County Schools will be closed Friday and they will be implementing a Digital Learning Day.

Teachers sent assignments home with students or they posted assignments in Google Classroom soon. For digital assignments, anyone who does not have internet access will be provided with opportunities to make up the work. All after school activities are canceled for today as well.

Rome City Schools will be closed Friday for students and employees.

Teachers will communicate with parents and students via School Status and Google Classroom regarding assignments.

Polk County Schools are also closed Friday.

Gordon County Schools are closed to students and most staff this week for winter break. However, 12-month employees who are working this week are asked to not report until 10 am.

If conditions are not safe for driving, even after the delay, these employees should only report when it is safe to do so

Calhoun City Schools will operate on a two-hour delay.

Chattooga County Schools are closed.

Cartersville City and Bartow Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Friday morning. Please keep in mind this means bus routes and school opening times will occur two hours later than normal.

All campuses of Georgia Northwestern Technical College will delay opening until 10 am.

Georgia Highlands College – all campuses will have a two-hour delayed opening.

Floyd County administration offices will delay opening until 10:00 AM on Friday.

Jurors serving on the Grand Jury need to report at 10 a.m.

All other jurors (traverse) will report at 10:30 AM for Floyd County Court, but jurors should call the message line before reporting for updated information.

All essential personnel will report as scheduled unless they have made other arrangements with their supervisors.

Any employees who will not be able to make it in at 10:00 am due to traveling difficulties or other weather-related issues will need to contact their supervisors to make other arrangements.

City of Rome administrative offices will have a delayed opening at 10 a.m.

The City of Rome Transit Department will delay the start of bus service on Friday due to anticipated weather conditions. All bus routes will leave the transit station for the first run at 9:30 a.m.

The Northwest Health District office in Rome, the Floyd County Health Department in Rome, and the Polk County Health Department in Cedartown will delay opening until 10 AM tomorrow, February 21, following the lead of local county governments.
