Cherokee County Woman Convicted On Charges Of Cruelty To Animals In 2019 Case

(Via Weis Radio) A Gaylesville woman arrested back on February 24 of 2019 on numerous Animal Cruelty charges was convicted in Cherokee County Circuit Court on Tuesday. (February, 18, 2020)

59 year old Dana Marie Head was originally arrested and charged with 17 counts of Cruelty to Animals after Cherokee County deputies responded to a call of endangered animals in Gaylesville along the Chattooga River – the animals which included ducks, rabbits, birds and cats were in cages and endanger of drowning in rising flood waters along the river.

At the time, Head was not at home when law enforcement arrived at the home. Deputies had to cut locks on the cages and several people in the area assisted in rescuing the animals.Two of the animals were already deceased.

In the courtroom of Circuit Judge Jeremy Taylor, following deliberation, a jury found Head guilty of three on three counts of Cruelty to Animals and not guilty on nine counts of Cruelty to Animals.

A sentencing hearing in the case has been set for March, 19 at 9:00 a.m. in Cherokee County Circuit Court
