NEWS RELEASE/STAFF REPORTS
In an abundance of caution, due to the one confirmed COVID-19 case of a Floyd County Schools employee, FCS will be closed for all school faculty and staff with the exception of custodians on Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13.
All Central Office employees should report to work as scheduled.
Thursday and Friday are already student holidays as indicated on the 2019-2020 school year calendar.
Parent-Teacher conferences that were scheduled for Thursday have been canceled. Decisions on all afterschool activities will be determined at a later time.
FCS has already taken additional precautions to ensure effective sanitation practices within all facilities and buses, which include installing additional hand sanitizers, fogging once a week with an FDA approved sanitizer, and implementing antibacterial surface wipes. FCS will thoroughly clean CSES over the next two days.
Recommended daily actions families can take to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases include:
-
Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
-
Cover coughs or sneeze with a tissue.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
-
Adults and children who are sick should stay home from work or school and stay away from other people until they are better.
-
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
If you believe your child is showing symptoms, please call the local hospitals before arriving. As a friendly reminder, if your child stays home from school sick, please remember to provide a parent and/or doctor’s note.
The school system asks that staff and families continue to follow the COVID-19 guidelines as shared by dph.georgia.gov and cdc.gov including monitoring you and your child’s health for fever and symptoms of respiratory illness including a runny nose, cough and/or shortness of breath. Please call your local health provider for assistance if these symptoms occur.
Excel Christian Academy in Bartow County is also closed today and tomorrow after a member of the community tested positive for COVID-19.
Cartersville Medical also announced Wednesday that they have one patient who has tested positive.
Northwest Georgia Public Health was recently notified of two confirmed positive COVID-19 cases that attended The Church at Liberty Square services in Cartersville on the Sunday mornings of March 1st and March 8th.
Public health officials are asking church members to monitor until March 22nd for fever with cough and shortness of breath. If you develop these symptoms, stay home and call your health care provider right away. Be sure to call before going to a doctor’s office, emergency room, or urgent care and tell them about your symptoms and recent potential exposure.
Floyd County now had three cases, two at Redmond, and one at Floyd in addition to a Polk County woman diagnosed last week who is still being treated at Floyd.
