Gov. Kemp issues Executive Order closing Schools through April 24th

Today Governor Brian P. Kemp issued Executive Order 03.26.20.02 closing public elementary and secondary schools for in-person instruction through April 24, 2020. Students may return to school on Monday, April 27, 2020.

“I am deeply grateful to State School Superintendent Richard Woods, the Georgia Department of Education, superintendents, and parents for keeping us informed and helping us make the right decision for our students,” said Governor Kemp. “Throughout this process, we will continue to seek the advice of public health officials, school leaders, and families to ensure the health and safety of the educational community. As we approach April 24, 2020, we ask for continued patience and flexibility since circumstances may change, but we encourage families to stay strong and follow the guidance of federal, state, and local leaders in the weeks ahead.”

The University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia will remain closed for in-person instruction through the rest of the semester since students have already transitioned to all online learning.

Rome City Schools gave this following Closure update:

Based on the Executive Order of Governor Brian Kemp, Rome City Schools will adhere to his mandate for schools to remain closed through Friday, 04.24.20.

Currently, schools are scheduled to resume Monday, 04.27.20

Floyd County Schools gave this Following Update:

In consideration of Governor Kemp’s executive order issued on March 26, as well as the latest guidance from the CDC, Floyd County Schools will remain closed through April 24 with classes resuming on April 27, 2020. Teachers will make contact with students in order to continue instructional activities through April 24. No assignments will be given the week of spring break. As we gain additional information from state and local officials, we will reassess and determine if additional time is needed beyond this date.

Additionally, all field trips scheduled for the remainder of the school year will be canceled. Details on refunds will be made available to families as soon as they are determined. School-sponsored events will be postponed or canceled for the duration of the closures. As always, the health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority
