Chattooga County: Portion Of Center Post Road To Remain Closed

April 14th, 2020 – 2:30 PM

WZQZ Radio –

(Via WZQZ Radio) Chattooga County Public Works Director Joe Reed says that a water main break on Center Post Road led to the road washing out.  Complicating matters, the Chattooga River which runs near the road has been out of its banks causing flooding and further erosion of the road.

Reed said that most customers water was restored Tuesday afternoon, but there are still a couple of customers without water in the area.  Reed said that a downed tree could have been the cause of the water main break that was gushing water by the time crews from the Chattooga Water District arrived.  The water main has been temporarily repaired, but the road will have to be repaired before completing the work.

To fix the road, the county will likely have to haul in 30-40 loads of chert.  Also, Reed said that they may have to haul in larger rocks to contain water from the Chattooga River and let the larger rocks hold the chert.

In the mean time, you will need to access Center Post Road from Wright Road on the west side and Welcome Hill on the east side.
