An elderly female was unable to escape a fire in her mobile home at 49 Walnut Trail in the Allatoona community Sunday morning and was found deceased.
Bartow County Fire Department crews were dispatched to the scene at around 8:00 and found heavy fire conditions.
Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton stated that the victim was unidentifiable. Her body had to be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for official confirmation of her identity.
The husband of the victim sustained burns and smoke inhalation while attempting to rescue her before fire crews arrived. He was treated on-scene for burns and transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital by MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service.
The home was a total loss. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and is currently under investigation by the Bartow County Fire Marshal’s office.
