First-time claims for unemployment insurance were up dramatically in Northwest Georgia during the month of April, according to the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Labor.
In Floyd County, 12,549 residents filed initial claims.
That is up from the 3,764 that were filed in March.
There were just 433 claims filed in Floyd County in April of 2019.
Gordon County saw 8,697 claims, which are up from 1,418 the month before and 101 in April of 2019.
Bartow County had 16,521 claims, up from 3,848 in March and 180 in April of last year.
Chattooga County had 709, up from 68 the month before and 33 this time last year.
4,735 claims were filed in Polk County compared to 1,562 in March and 131 in April of last year.
