Floyd County Schools –
The following is a press release from Floyd County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Wilson, posted on Tuesday morning:
After consultation with county officials and the Georgia Department of Public Health, along with seeing the large spike in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, FCS has decided to cancel the July 23rd and 24th traditional graduation ceremonies to ensure the safety of FCS staff and students.
We believe that having four gatherings of hundreds of people just is not safe based on our current uptick of COVID-19.
School systems around the state are considering or already have made the decision to cancel in-person graduations. Bringing together large groups from each of our school communities together with COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations on the rise, along with our plan to start with students in school in August, would just not be prudent.
