A Summerville woman was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga after her bicycle was struck by a vehicle on Old Summerville Road near Stonebridge Drive Saturday morning.

According to a Rome Police report, the driver of the 2011 Toyota Corolla told officers that he slowed to about 25 miles per hour as he approached the bicyclist.

He moved to the southbound lanes in an attempt to pass.

As he was passing, the bicycle began to turn left and was struck by the Corolla.

74-year old Susan A. Mullis was not responsive when officers arrived on the scene but she was alert enough to give her name just prior to transport.

According to a social media post from the family, Mullis sustained a head injury but is in stable condition and was alert and conscious on Sunday.

At the time of the police report, no charges had been filed.
