Rome’s unemployment rate up slightly in July

Rome’s unemployment rate was up slightly in July, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

The jobless rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point in July, reaching 7.1 percent. A year ago, the rate was 4.7 percent.

The labor force did increase in July by 117.

However, that number is down 298 when compared to July of 2019.

Rome finished the month with 41,004 employed residents.  That number increased by 53 over the month but is down by 1,349 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Looking at other Northwest Georgia counties…

The unemployment rate in Bartow County was down from 6% to 5.9% over the month.  It was 3.1% this time last year.

Gordon County’s was up from 5.8% in June to 5.9% in July.  It was 4.1% in July of 2019.

Chattooga County’s jobless rate fell from 10.3% to 8.7%.  It was 4.6% this time last year.

Polk County was also down from 7% to 6.6%.  It was 4% in July of last year.
