STAFF REPORTS

The Rome City Commission has approved a rezoning for the construction of new duplexes in the Summerville Park area.

Berry Construction plans to develop up to four duplexes consisting of up to a total of eight units at 201 and 203A Redmond Road.

“The desire for this was to continue to improve our neighborhood,” said Jay Stephenson with Berry Construction.  “We want to do really nice finishes, and really quality living spaces for the residents that live there in the future.  Hopefully, just to continue improving Rome, Georgia by continuing to improve some lots that are undeveloped at the moment and add to the beauty of our neighborhood.”

In other action, the city commission approved a resolution for the issuance of bonds for a renovation project at Ashland Park Apartments.

“This is not an obligation for the city,” said Rome City Attorney Andy Davis.  “It’s a procedural matter for you to pass this resolution.  It does not obligate the city, the county or the school systems.  It is purely an obligation under HUD for the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority.”

The improvement project involves 184 units and the multifamily housing revenue bonds are for approximately $19.5 million.
