October 28, 2020–11:14 a.m.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the north and eastern parts of Georgia.

The warning area includes Floyd, Bartow, Gordon, Chattooga, Polk and Paulding Counties.

A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical-storm-force winds are expected somewhere within this area within the next 36 hours.

Peak winds of 30-40 mph with gusts to 55 mph are forecasted for early Thursday morning.

There is the potential for wind 39 to 57 mph.

We could see:

-Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects are blown about.

– Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow-rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over.

– A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways.

– Scattered power and communications outages.

A Flash Flood Watch also remains in effect for the area through Thursday morning.

Periods of heavy rainfall are expected across the area due to the influence of a warm front today and then with rain bands associated with the remnants of Hurricane Zeta as it weakens and tracks across the forecast area tonight into Thursday.

Associated rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected on average across north Georgia with locally higher amounts possible where heavy rain bands persist for prolonged periods of time.
