The Rome Christmas Parade Committee released the following statement on Tuesday morning:
The Rome Christmas Parade Committee is pleased to announce that Mike McDougald is the Grand Marshal of this year’s Christmas Parade.
“Mike McDougald has been one of the most active members of our community since he moved to Rome in 1977. He has touched so many lives both personally and professionally with his commitment to community service,” Parade Co Chairman Jerry Rucker stated.
The Christmas in Rome Committee each year selects a Grand Marshal to lead the parade. Nominations are received from the public and the committee makes the selection based on the impact an individual has had in our community.
“Mike is an exemplary example of a true public servant. He has gone above and beyond time and time again to make Rome and Floyd County a wonderful place to live,” said Co Chair Janet Byington.
The Christmas Parade this year will take place in the parking lots of State Mutual Stadium on December 1 from 6-8 PM. The entries will be stationary in the lot which will be decorated to reflect a Winter Wonderland and the public is invited to drive by and enjoy the parade from their vehicles.
Byington stated “Due to the pandemic this year’s parade is going to be different but just as much fun! Santa Claus will absolutely come to Rome to kick off the holiday season. We hope people will start their evening at the Stadium but then drive around the countryside with their family and see all the beautiful decorations in our community. After 2020, now more than ever we all need a little Christmas in our lives.”
