*Here’s the latest forecast update to the severe potential mainly focused on New Year’s Day:
WHAT’S CHANGED: The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the Marginal Risk area for New Year’s Day and included a hatched tornado probability zone. The overall threat for severe storms has increased with damaging winds continuing to be the main concern but isolated flash flooding and brief tornadoes also a concern.
When: New Year’s Day (Friday) – main potential in afternoon/evening, cannot rule out some morning activity in western portions of the state.
What: Damaging winds, a few isolated brief tornadoes, and heavy rainfall leading to isolated flash flooding.
Where: Severe storms now possible over the entire area. Flash flood potential north and central GA.
Overall: Marginal Risk For Entire Area New Year’s Day – Increased Tornado Probability For Entire Area New Year’s Day – Anticipated Rainfall Totals In Excess of 2 Inches Leading To Isolated Flash Flooding
