The Floyd County Commission has approved the purchase of a K9 for the Floyd County Police Department.
The total cost is $18,200 includes the purchase of the dog and the training of the officer handler, according to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord.
“In January, a donation of $21,000 was made to the Floyd County Police Department by a private citizen,” McCord added. “The donation was earmarked for a police K9. After a lot of discussions, we think this is absolutely a good idea. There will be very minimal ongoing costs. You will have K9 pay and some annual training. However, this is a great gift to the Floyd County Police Department and a great asset going forward.”
