(Via WBHF Radio) Bartow County Fire and Emergency Services Rescued a Teen Trapped in a Structure Fire Thursday Afternoon

Bartow County Fire and Emergency Services units were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 104 Gilreath Road around 5:41 Thursday evening.

Upon arrival, Bartow County Fire Engine 1 reported heavy smoke and fire showing from a single-story wood-frame residential structure.

Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputies were on scene advising that a person was trapped inside the residence in a back bedroom.

An off-duty BCFES Lieutenant was attempting to keep the fire in check with a nearby garden hose as firefighters entered the bedroom window with the assistance of BCSO Deputies while hose lines were being stretched to extinguish the fire, an 11-year-old male child was quickly located and extracted from the residence.

Metro EMS called for a helicopter for air transport and the child was airlifted to Grady Hospital.  Reports from Grady this morning are that the victim is in stable condition.

During the rescue, one BCFES Firefighter was injured and initially transported to the Cartersville Medical Center.

He was later transferred to Welllstar Cobb for further observation. The firefighter is in good condition at this time.

The firefighter was injured when the facepiece on his Self-Contained Breathing  Apparatus became dislodged during the rescue and he breathed in smoke and super-heated air.

“I am extremely proud of the actions of our firefighters and the great teamwork between agencies that resulted in the rescue of this victim.  Without their quick actions, the outcome of the incident would have been much different.”  Chief Dewayne Jamison.
