Rome City Commission meets Monday

March 21, 2021–7:30 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Rome City Commission will place an alcohol ordinance amendment pertaining to the hours of package sales on Sundays onto First Reading when they meet Monday night.

The ordinance amendment would let retailers start selling alcohol starting at 11 a.m. on Sundays.

It comes to the full Rome City Commission from the Alcohol Control Commission with a recommendation to approve.

Since this is just a First Reading, no public hearing and no vote will take place.

That will come during the commission’s next meeting.

A public hearing and vote will take place regarding a rezoning request on Westside Industrial Boulevard that will pave the way for an expansion at Integrated Fiber Solutions.

The manufacturer of synthetic bulked continuous filament yarns for the carpet, rug, and automotive industries will invest $30 million in expanding their operations in Rome to meet growing demand.  The expansion will bring approximately 40 additional jobs to Floyd County.

Also on the agenda is the approval of a health care clinic for city and county employees. Staff is recommending staying with Redmond as the provider of the clinic.

The issue was on last month’s agenda but was tabled for further discussion.

The Rome City Commission meeting will be held in the Commission Chambers as well as via Facebook Live and Zoom.

The Caucus will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Sam King Room with the regular meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.
