The rain ends, cold temps on the way

April 1, 2021–6:31 a.m.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

The rain has ended but it’s going to be windy and cold.

Just shy of an inch-and-a-half of rain was recorded at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport on Wednesday.

That is in addition to the 4.4 inches we got during the severe storms last week.

Flood Warnings remain in effect for Armuchee Creek and the Coosa River at Rome Mayos Lock and Dam until further notice, as well as for the Oostanaula River in Rome until this evening.

At 4:45 this morning, Armuchee Creek was at 22.3 feet and is expected to rise to a crest of 22.6 feet late this afternoon.  The flood stage is 19 feet. The Coosa is at 28 feet, four feet above the flood stage. The Oostanaula is expected to crest at 25.6 feet early this afternoon.  It will then fall below the flood stage of 25 feet this evening.

A Wind Advisory goes into effect this morning at 10 a.m. and lasts until 7 tonight.

You can expect winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts of up to 35 mph.

A Freeze Warning will be in effect from midnight tonight until 10 a.m. Friday, with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 expected.
