Rome-Floyd Planning Commission meets Thursday

The Rome-Floyd Planning Commission will consider a number of rezoning requests and special use permits when they meet Thursday.

General Shale Products is asking for a portion of their property on Turners to be rezoned from Suburban Residential to Heavy Industrial.

Georgia Pacific has entered into an agreement to purchase more than 65 acres of the 97-acre parcel for a facility that allows for the temporary storage of timber before it is sent to the mill for processing.

Also on the agenda is a rezoning request for several properties on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Gibbons Street for a proposed36-unit apartment building.

Special use permits for a solar farm at 2767 Calhoun Road and a residential cluster for property located at 1595 Old Summerville Road are also on the agenda for the meeting, which begins at 2:30 p.m. in the Sam King Room at Rome City Hall.
