Floyd County COVID-19 update

August 29, 2021–5:55 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

Floyd County has reported 1,179 COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks alone.

As of Friday, there were 106 COVID-19 patients at Floyd Medical Center, 53 are on critical respiratory support.

Of the 106 patients, 95 are unvaccinated.

Redmond had 52 patients at last report.

Like with Floyd, the vast majority are unvaccinated.

Statewide, as of August 24, of the more than 4.4 million Georgians who have been vaccinated, a little over 25,000 have tested positive.  That is just over one-half of one percent.

1,009 have been hospitalized for any reason.  That is .02%.

168, or .003%, have died.

The vaccination rate in Floyd County is at 35%.  40% have had at least one dose.

That is more than surrounding counties but less than the state average.

43% of Georgians are fully vaccinated and 50% have received at least one dose.

Northwest Georgia residents can continue to get free COVID-19 testing in Bartow County.

The Georgia Department of Public Health has contracted with MAKO Medical to provide drive-up testing at the LakePointe Sports Complex in Emerson.

The site is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The PCR testing is done by nasal swab to determine the presence of the virus.

Anyone who has COVID-19 type symptoms or has been in close contact recently with a person infected with the virus needs to get tested, even if they are fully vaccinated.
