A Rome woman died from injuries sustained from a house fire that occurred in Garden Lakes early Monday morning.
According to information provided by Rome-Floyd Fire Marshal Mary Catherine Chewning, On October 4th at 1:55 AM the Rome Floyd Fire Department was notified of a structure fire at Donley Drive.
Upon arrival at the scene, An 89-year-old Sung Lee Park was pulled out of the house by Rome Floyd firefighters, and she remained in critical condition overnight until she passed away at Floyd Medical Center on Monday morning.
Park’s 94-year-old husband also sustained injuries as a result of the fire and remains in critical condition at the Augusta Burn Unit.
The official cause of the fire has not yet been determined and a joint investigation involving the Rome-Floyd Fire Department, Floyd County Police Department, and the Georgia State Marshal’s Office (K9 Units) is underway.
