City Commission to consider Pleasant Valley Road annexation Monday

October 24, 2021–12:05 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

The Rome City Commission will conduct a public hearing Monday night regarding an annexation request for properties on Pleasant Valley Road for a proposed residential development.

The development called “Pleasant Valley Preserve” would include more than a thousand single-family residences on just over 264 acres at Pleasant Valley and Chulio Road.

The Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission voted to send the annexation request to the full city commission with no recommendation following a 4-4 vote.

A number of residents who live on nearby properties have also sent letters opposing the project.

In other action, the commission is expected to vote on a rezoning application for properties located in the triangle at the intersection of Martha Berry Boulevard and N 5th Avenue.

The Point, as the development is called, would include 210 residential units and an undetermined amount of commercial space.

Commissioners are also expected to vote on a possible extension of the downtown open container ordinance.

The recommendation from the Rome Downtown Development Authority has two possible options.

The first would extend the current guidelines until the end of the year.

The second would be an unlimited extension.

Monday’s Rome City Commission meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall.
