Rome firefighters responded to a house fire on Second Street in Shannon just before 9 a.m. Thursday.
According to Battalion Chief Roger Haggard, the structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene.
The occupant of the home had left to take her children to school and when she returned the house was on fire.
The fire started in the living room area and is believed to be electrical in nature.
However, the exact cause remains under investigation.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
