The Downtown Development Authority and the Office of Downtown Development awarded six 2021 Downtown Impact Grants. These funds supported organizations in the production of events that enhance the quality of life and promote economic growth in Downtown Rome.

In 2021, the DDA awarded six grants of $1,000 to the Rome International Film Festival, Going Caching, Rome Little Theatre, Rome Symphony Orchestra, Schnauzerfest, and Spirit of the Sun. These events were well attended with the Rome International Film Festival bringing in over 1,100 attendees for this year’s festival. Going Caching was not far behind at approximately 1,040 attendees. Those attending these events are not just local and regional. They bring in visitors from all over the country. Going Caching brought in visitors from 42 states, and Schnauzerfest brought in visitors from 45 states.

These events draw a significant tourism impact, with most visitors staying in the hotels and shopping and eating downtown. For example, during the Rome International Film Festival, many guests stay three to four nights. Going Caching attendees stayed anywhere from one night to eight nights! Schnauzerfest sold out all of the downtown hotels, as well, with many staying at least two nights, but some staying longer to enjoy all Rome has to offer.

The Downtown Development Authority has enjoyed seeing the impact these events have been able to make in Downtown Rome and is excited to continue these efforts.
