COVID-19 update for February 1

February 1, 2022–5:44 p.m.

GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

Another 23 Floyd County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Tuesday’s status report from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

One additional death was also reported on Tuesday.

That is down from the 204 new cases and two deaths that were reported between Friday and Monday afternoon.

Dr. Gary Voccio, health director for the 10-county Georgia Department of Public Health’s Northwest District believes we will eventually turn the corner with the virus.

I think we will eventually transition to an endemic Coronavirus,” he said.  “We may need vaccines on a yearly basis but the virus is not going to tell us what it’s going to do, until it does it.  We just have to be cautious and careful, and continue to promote vaccines and wearing a mask.  Be careful, you don’t want to get this virus.  We want people to get vaccinated and boosted.

Since the start of the pandemic, Floyd County residents have tested positive for the virus with a total of losing their lives.
