STAFF REPORTS

Rome City Manager Sammy Rich reported that the city is in strong shape financially during his State of the City address Monday night.

Rich also gave updates on various projects and highlighted progress in several areas including the housing situation.

“There are about 14 projects that we are aware of, meaning that they are at some stage of the process, within our community,” he said.  “This list represents 4,487 residential units.  3,639 or 81% are in the City of Rome.  I’ve been in Rome/Floyd since 2002 and this is unprecedented for us.  This is unheard of.”

Rich also spoke about the West Third Streetscape project that is ongoing.

“I would say it is one of the most exciting projects that the city is going to undertake anytime soon,” he said.  “I hope that if you have not been following along, this one will really get your attention.  Pond and Company are doing the engineering on this, and when it’s finished, you’ve got a new streetscape, new trees, and decorative furniture, I think it’s going to be really transformative for an area that I think is going to see some unprecedented growth.

Rich also highlighted a business incubator that is coming to 110 Broad Street, along with the city’s commitment to parks, the police and fire departments, and the daily work of city employees.
