City commission to discuss millage rate, pay raise for commissioners

July 10, 2022–1:48 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

A proposed pay raise for city commissioners and is on the agenda for Monday’s Rome City Commission.

If approved, the amendment to the City of Rome Charter would increase the pay from $8,400 to $12,000 a year with the mayor’s salary remaining at 110% of the commissioner’s salary.

The amendment is only on First Reading Monday.  A final vote would come during the commission’s next meeting.

During the Monday meeting, the commission will also hold the first of three public hearings regarding the millage rates.

The proposed combined rates for the City government and City Schools of 27.276 will result in no increase in millage rate from the prior year, but will be an increase of 4.7% over the calculated rollback rate for City Maintenance and Operations and School tax.

The City is proposing to adopt a roll-back rate on City M&O from 8.151 to 8.0 with no change planned for either the Capital tax or School tax.

Monday’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall.  The caucus will start at 5 p.m.
