Qualifying for Rome School Board seat starts Monday

August 14, 2022–2:10 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

Although this is not a typical municipal election year, there will be a contest for the Rome City School Board on the November ballot.

Candidate qualifying for that seat starts Monday, according to Rome City Clerk Joe Smith.

“One of those seven members resigned earlier this year,” he said.  “They were in the first year of a four-year term. Someone has been appointed to hold that position temporarily, but the remaining three years will be settled during this year’s election in November.”

Qualifying will be from 8 a.m. today until 4:30 p.m. Friday at the city clerk’s office at Rome City Hall.

“Qualifications for that seat have not changed,” Smith added.  “To qualify, you would have to have been a city resident for at least a year, be a registered voter, and pay the qualifying fee.  The fee is three percent of the current salary, which is $126.”

This is a non-partisan contest.
