Extremely Cold Temperatures expected this Weekend

December 20th, 2022 – 4:30 PM

Staff Reports –

Extremely cold temperatures are expected across North Georgia starting Thursday night and into the weekend. According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, there is potential for some wintry precipitation in the North Georgia area late Thursday into Friday morning as rain could potentially quickly change to snow. Any accumulations are expected to be minimal at the time of this report, but the concern for icy conditions on the roads will increase as temperatures drop well below freezing by Friday morning.

High temperatures will struggle to get out of the 20s and lower 30s on Friday and Saturday across much of the area, and low temperatures will be between 5 and 20 degrees Friday and Saturday night. Gusty winds are expected on Friday and Saturday, and wind chill values are forecast to be as cold as 5 to 15 degrees below zero for parts of North Georgia during the early morning each of these days.

With the cold weather being in full swing this weekend, WRGA News reminds you to use caution if driving on the road look out for black ice, donate blankets to homeless shelters, and check on elderly relatives and neighbors to ensure they are warm enough and have sufficient supplies, make sure pets and plants are sheltered or protected, and also avoid pipe bursts by letting cold water drip from the faucet.
