Man accused of threatening, biting, and spitting on officers

A 38-year-old Rome man is facing multiple charges in connection with an incident at a convenience store on Dean Avenue Sunday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Jeremiah Thomas-Matthew John Curley was at Hi-Tech Fuel after being previously banned.

He then threatened the responding officer and the officer’s family.

Curley also attempted to spit on the officer

He was charged with terroristic threats and acts, simple battery against a police officer, and criminal trespass.

Once at the jail, Curley made inappropriate physical contact with the officer, threatened to kill multiple officers, and bit one officer on the arm.

Curley was additionally charged with sexual battery as well as additional counts of terroristic threats and acts and simple battery on a law enforcement officer.

Rome man charged with making threat

A Rome man was arrested over the weekend on a felony count of terroristic threats and acts.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

45-year-old Christopher Michael Carson threatened to commit a crime of violence at a business on East 14th Street, which was corroborated by a witness.

Carson is also charged with disorderly conduct for acting in a violent and tumultuous manner.

Report: Homeless man entered vehicles

A homeless man is facing felony charges after he was seen on video surveillance entering vehicles at three locations.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

24-year-old Joseph Matthew Wheeler entered unlocked vehicles at a convenience store and two hotels.

At the time of his arrest on Dean Avenue, Wheeler was found with suspected methamphetamine and a smoking device.

He is charged with four counts of entering an auto, and single counts of possession of meth and possession of drug-related objects.

Man charged with theft by receiving a stolen firearm

A traffic stop for DUI on Old Dalton Road ended with the arrest of a Eufaula, Alabama man on a felony charge.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

61-year-old Michael Franklin Vaughn was found in possession of a stolen firearm.

He is charged with theft by receiving stolen property as well as driving under the influence.
