Man charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and battery

A Rome man is accused of assaulting a woman with a 2×4 and a metal broom handle back on March 17.

According to the arrest warrant on file at the Floyd County Jail:

28-year-old Demetrise Vanness Favors struck the victim’s legs several times with the piece of lumber and then hit her in the head with the broom handle.

The victim sustained a cut to the top of her head as a result.

Favors also used his hand to hit the victim, bruising her right eye, and then prevented her from leaving the residence by using threats and taking her phone and cash app card.

He only allowed the victim to go to work and even then he monitored her phone.

Favors is charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and battery.

Report: Alabama man seen kicking child

A Guntersville, Alabama man was arrested Tuesday after he was seen kicking a child on Broad Street in Rome.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

41-year-old Justin Health Sweeney was taken into custody at a location on Turner McCall Boulevard and was also found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

The victim had visible red marks from being kicked.

Sweeney is charged with 1st-degree cruelty to children, DUI, and endangering a child by driving under the influence.

Woman arrested on theft warrant

A 45-year-old Rome woman has been arrested on a felony warrant charging her with theft by taking a motor vehicle.

According to the warrant:

Kimberly Michelle Jeter took a 2012 Ford F150, valued at $3,500 from a location on Rockmart Road in Silver Creek back on April 20.

Jeter is also charged with a probation violation and two counts of contempt of superior court.

Felony accused of having a firearm

A 21-year-old Rome man, already on probation, was arrested Tuesday after he was found in possession of a Glock firearm.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Amaury Shakur Redwine was also found with a small amount of marijuana while at a home on Davis Street.

He is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and a probation violation.
