Bicyclist struck by vehicle in West Rome Sunday

A bicyclist was transported to Atrium Health Floyd on Sunday after being struck by a vehicle on Redmond Circle near Shorter Avenue.

According to a Rome Police Department report:

The cyclist, identified as 48-year-old Scotty D. Phillips, who is homeless, crossed Redmond near Sam’s Club where there is no crosswalk and was hit by a 2001 Ford Explorer.

The mishap occurred at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The driver of the Ford did try to swerve to avoid hitting the bicycle.

Phillips sustained what were believed to be serious injuries.
