Events in Rome and Floyd County to celebrate America’s Birthday will get underway on Saturday with the 8th Annual Lindale Independence Day Celebration Festival & Parade.
Also added this year is the 1st Annual Lindale Car Show, which is open to cars trucks, motorcycles & tractors.
“We’ve got our parade lineup at 9:30 a.m. at Pepperell Primary School,” said Tim Reynolds with Restoration Lindale. “The parade will kick off at 10 o’clock along Park Avenue. The parade is free.”
According to Reynolds, to be in the parade, just simply show up, decorated in an American theme of your choice. Decorations need to be appropriate. Walkers, riders, 4-wheelers, tractors, and old cars are all welcome in the parade.
The car inaugural car show at the park is from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will feature show cars, trucks, motorcycles, and even tractors.
“We have a lot of folks in our area who restore farm equipment and I am one of those,” Reynolds said. “I have seven antique tractors, so we’re excited to add the car show to the mix this year.”
Proceeds from the car show will benefit the Kids at Christmas program, which provides Christmas presents for deserving children in the Pepperell Community.
The festival is on South First Street and is also from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Reynolds said there are over 40 vendors who have signed up. Vendors make a $20 donation to Restoration Lindale, Inc. The proceeds benefit the Lindale Star Plaza, the Historic Lindale Fire truck, and other restoration projects.
“We have cleaned up around the World War I and World War II monument on Legion Drive,” Reynolds said. “That area has started to grow up and the shrubbery has looked really bad for the last few years. So, we have whacked all that down, and we are going to restore and clean that monument. Hopefully, in the future, we can display an American Flag there by the monument.”
Another restoration project involves the Lindale Cemetery.
“We have just recently finished mowing the grass this past week,” Reynolds said. “We’ve had the Boy Scouts in Lindale doing a huge project there, removing the rocks and walls in the cemetery that have deteriorated over time. It makes it a lot easier to weed eat.”
Again, the 8th Annual Lindale Independence Day Celebration Festival, Parade, and car show is Saturday, July 1.
