The Tire Amnesty Event is made possible thanks to a grant from the Environmental Protection Division’s (EPD) Local Government Scrap Tire Abatement Reimbursement (STAR) Program. This grant will reimburse Floyd County for the cost of transporting and processing scrap tires. It is funded by Georgia’s Solid Waste Trust Fund. This event is also made possible through the time and effort of employees of the following departments: Floyd County Public Works, the City of Rome Public Works, and the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center.
“We are happy to be able to host a Scrap Tire Amnesty Day to provide an easy way for citizens to recycle tires,” says Emma Wells, Director. “During the summer especially, scrap tires can create a health hazard and make your backyard a breeding ground for mosquitoes. We hope citizens will take advantage of this free opportunity to dispose of up to ten tires for free!”
