Demolition is underway at 1148 North Broad Street in preparation for a townhome development.
In January, the Rome City Commission approved a rezoning request for the townhome development, with the plan for the demolition of the current structure and the construction of 36 to 48 single-family attached townhomes of approximately 1,500 square feet in size.
The building was the home of Jennings Funeral Home for many years.
It was purchased by Rene Fountain around eight years ago and was transformed into the North Broad Youth Center.
The center shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic and facing closure again after mold was found in the building and two air conditioning units went out.
The youth center board then decided to move the center to the church at 1601 North Broad Street, across from Dollar General.
