New precinct map approved by elections board

The Floyd County Board of Elections has unanimously approved a new precinct map.

Under the map. several precincts will be merged making 19 total instead of 25.

Floyd County Elections Superintendent Akyn Trudnak explained the changes.

We’re combining Armuchee and Texas Valley,” she said. “We’re combining Riverside with North Rome. Vann’s Valley and Barkers will be combined to form the South Floyd precinct. We are also combining Garden Lakes and the western part of Mt. Alto North. Town Rome at the bypass will be moved to Glenwood, Etowah left of the bypass, will be moved to North Rome. East Lindale west of Highway 101 will merge with West Lindale. East Lindale east of 101 moves to East Rome. The west side of Mt. Alto South will combine with Alto Park. The east side of Mt. Alto North moves to East Rome. Mt. Alto North, east of Redmond Circle will merge with town Rome.”

Some precincts will get new names, according to Trudnak.

“The combination of Texas Valley and Armuchee becomes New Armuchee,” she said. “Barkers and Vann’s Valley will become South Floyd. North Carolina will be changed to Coosa, in name only. Watters will become Shannon, again, in name only. East Lindale, west of 101, and West Lindale will be called Lindale.”

The changes are expected to go into effect in time for this November’s election.

Also Tuesday, the elections board unanimously approved a resolution for the 2023 special purpose, local option sales tax referendum.

Rome, Floyd County and Cave Spring voters will cast ballots in the SPLOST referendum on November 7.
