Qualifying for the upcoming municipal elections in November will start next week. Six of the nine seats on the Rome City Commission will be on the ballot, according to Rome City Clerk Joe Smith.
“Ward One and Ward Three with three from each ward,” he said. “That election will take place on November 7. We will open up at Rome City Hall at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 21, and close on Friday, August 25 at 4:40 p.m. Again, we will do qualifying at city hall, so all candidates can come in and we will provide the forms, and help each candidate through the process.
The current Ward One commissioners are Mark Cochran, Jim Bojo, and Sundai Stevenson. Current Ward Three commissioners are Bonny Askew, Bill Collins, and Craig McDaniel.
Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, a registered voter in the City of Rome, be a resident of Rome for at least one year prior to the election, and be a resident of the ward they are running in for at least 90 days prior to August 25.
