Man arrested for child cruelty
A 39-year-old Silver Creek man has been jailed on a felony warrant charging him with 1st-degree cruelty to children.
According to the warrant:
Mark Clifford Meeler hit a juvenile in the face multiple times causing large bruises to the child’s face and jaw.
The child also had claw marks on his neck as well as bruising on his forearms consistent with attempting to defend himself from being struck.
Man accused of entering autos, auto theft
A Silver Creek man is facing multiple charges including entering an auto, theft by taking, and financial transaction card fraud.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
28-year-old James Colby Ray stole vehicles from Glenwood School Road on July 23 and the Trail in Lindale on July 20. And entered five vehicles on Forest Hill Drive in Silver Creek. Various items including credit cards, and a firearm
Ray is also accused of stealing a 2021 Dodge Ram, valued at $65,000 from The Trail in Lindale on July 20, and using credit cards in the vehicle to make several purchases online.
Tools and a firearm were also stolen.
Then on July 19, Ray entered five automobiles on Forest Hill Drive in Silver Creek, taking sunglasses, flashlights, money, and a charging box, valued at more than $1,500.
Ray was already in the Floyd County Jail when these latest charges were filed.
He was initially arrested on July 27 on various charges including possession of methamphetamine, fleeing or attempting to elude, and multiple traffic violations.
Report: Woman kicked police officer during arrest
A Rome woman who was initially arrested on a felony warrant for failure to appear in court is facing additional charges.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
34-year-old Tanesha Demetria Nicole Mostella refused to get into the patrol car as she was being arrested and then began to kick the police officer.
Once at the jail, suspected methamphetamine was found in her purse.
Mostella is charged with felony obstruction, possession of meth, and possession of drugs past the guard line at the jail.
Atlanta man jailed for forgery
A 50-year-old Atlanta man was booked into the Floyd County Jail Wednesday on a felony warrant charging him with 3rd-degree forgery.
According to the warrant:
Marcus Bechelli Carr cashed a forged check for more than $2,400 at a bank on North Second Avenue.
The incident occurred on March 21.
Alabama woman charged with felony shoplifting, giving a false name
A Gaylesville, Alabama woman was arrested after allegedly stealing more than $600 in merchandise from the East Rome Walmart.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
27-year-old Sierra Denae Cook also told police her name was Denae Rachel Cook.
She was charged with felony theft by shoplifting and giving a false name to law enforcement.
