Man accused of fleeing from police on Alabama Highway
A 19-year-old Rome man was arrested Thursday after allegedly fleeing from police on Alabama Highway.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Cortiyus Javari Ware Jr. was stopped for going 62 in a 45-mile-per-hour zone and was asked to step out of his vehicle after the officer smelled marijuana.
Instead, Ware took off, driving his vehicle on cemetery property and also passing vehicles on the wrong side of the road at speeds of more than 20 miles per hour over the limit.
Ware is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude reckless driving, and speeding.
Man charged with possession of meth with the intent to distribute
A traffic stop for an expired tag turned into a drug arrest for Rome Police Thursday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
A positive indication from a K9 on the vehicle driven by 45-year-old Christopher Dewayne Wiggins of Rome resulted in a probable cause search.
Wiggins was found with approximately 19 grams of methamphetamine and a digital scale.
He is charged with possession of meth, possession with the intent to distribute, and possession of drug-related objects.
Wiggins, who also has a warrant for his arrest in Calhoun County, Alabama, was additionally charged with being a fugitive from justice.
Warrant: Man stole heart monitor
A 55-year-old Rockmart man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with theft by taking.
According to the warrant:
Joseph Marty Wright took a telemetry heart monitor, valued at $1,500, from AdventHealth Redmond Hospital on Redmond Road back on April 10.
Woman charged with auto theft, possession of heroin
Floyd County Police arrested a 31-year-old West Virginia woman Friday on Maple Road on charges of theft by taking a motor vehicle and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Cinthia Marie Garrison took and was found in possession of a vehicle belonging to a 32-year-old Rome woman.
Garrison was also found with syringes containing suspected heroin.
