A tractor-trailer driver has been charged with felony vehicular homicide following a wreck Monday that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
The crash occurred at around 6:45 a.m. on Highway 27 North at Armuchee High School.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
46-year-old Tony Orlando McFarland, of Birmingham, Alabama, was following too closely when his truck hit the motorcycle killing 34-year-old Kyle Holladay, of LaFayette.
McFarland then left the scene.
That crash occurred moments after a single-vehicle accident in the same area.
According to Floyd County Police:
A pickup truck left the roadway, hit some guidewires, and brought down utility lines.
The driver of the pickup was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Highway was closed in both directions for several hours as police investigated both wrecks and utility crews made repairs.
