Floyd County Commissioners will conduct public hearings on several recommendations from the planning commission when they meet Tuesday.
Commissioners will consider a rezoning request for a manufactured home showroom at 2611 Shorter Avenue and a rezoning request for a new retail store across from Coosa High School.
During the pre-meeting caucus, Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services Director Katy Walters will give a presentation regarding a proposed animal alteration ordinance that would require all dogs and cats to be spayed or neutered, with some exceptions.
“We have had an increase in the population of stray animals in Floyd County,” Walters said during a recent county public safety committee meeting. “They’ve just basically been allowed to breed freely with little chance of ever finding a home. Citizen complaints about stray animals have really led to dissatisfaction with animal control. I know in July we had a total of 72 calls we were not able to respond to about strays. We basically let them know that the shelter was full and we could not do anything about them.”
The caucus begins at 4 pm with the regular meeting to start at 6 at the county administration building on Fourth Avenue.
