On Monday, multiple agencies participated in an active intruder drill at Pepperell High School.

According to Rick Flanigan, Chief Safety and Security Officer for Floyd County Schools, the exercise involved two major areas.

“The first one is interdiction where law enforcement is seeking out a neutralizing the threat,” he said. “The second is rescue and recovery where medical personnel are attending to the injured. The scenario involved two former Pepperell High School students who felt like they were bullied while in school and they were going to get their revenge.”

Flanigan told the county public safety committee on Thursday that the officers participating in the drill were quickly able to neutralize the threat.

“We will have a final debriefing on Friday,” Flanigan said. “We will get to discuss the totality of the exercise.”

Agencies participating included Floyd County Police, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, the Rome-Floyd County Fire Department, AdventHealth Redmond, Atrium Health Floyd, Redmond and Floyd EMS, LifeFlight, E-911, and Floyd County Emergency Management.
