The Rome International Film Festival is celebrating its 20th year.
The 2023 edition of RIFF starts Thursday with the Unscripted Roadshow event, which begins at 3 p.m. at the Desoto Theatre.
“We’re bringing in folks from the University of Georgia, Georgia State, the Georgia Film Academy, and some of the local artists who make their living off of the creative economy,” said RIFF Creative Director Seth Ingram. “We’re talking about how Rome can participate more in the creative economy so that the vendors and producers can see what Rome has to offer. Because I think it will be a big growing sector of the economy. That doesn’t just mean the creative types, it means everyone who makes a living off of these projects, like the electricians, the carpenters, and video editors. It’s all types. It touches everything like we have to have medics on set and things like that. It’s not just about film, it’s about all entertainment and digital media.”
Ingram also spoke about Friday’s schedule.
“We have Ethan Hawke and Tim Blake Nelson coming in,” he said. “It’s going to be a great event. We’re having Flannery O’Connor Friday, so if you’re a big literature enthusiast or Georgia literature enthusiast, you’re going to come out and support all those events. We have a documentary about Flannery and then the Flannery film “Wildcat” that Ethan Hawke did with his daughter.”
